A picturesque village in the English countryside, Shilton is a tranquil retreat surrounded by rolling hills and woodlands. The village is dotted with ancient stone cottages, their roofs covered in lush greenery, and features a charming 13th-century church, St. Michael's, with its tall spire and stained-glass windows. A babbling brook runs through the village, adding to its serene atmosphere, while the surrounding countryside offers scenic walking trails and opportunities to spot local wildlife.
Absolutely STUNNING place to walk, and with your dog if you have one! Clearly sign posted but can easily walk in all kinds of directions. I can get lost incredibly easily. I appreciated the sign posts. Hills, steep inclines and slopes. Uneven terrain, and not an "easy" walk. Good quality, comfortable walking boots are essential, in my opinion. A degree of fitness is also required. The views are stunning, you can walk for miles in any direction. Can really enjoy a good scenic walk without risk it seems. Nor were there any livestock present today. Didn't see many people or dogs. The ones we did were polite, respectful, and put their dogs on lead. This was absolutely lovely, and generally good manners! My dog enjoyed the change of scenery, new smells, and stuff to roll in! I enjoyed the fact that it was open, stunning views, very quiet, hardly saw anyone. As a result, very few hazards, or risks. It was also very clean. When you finish your walk there is a nearby pub that you can visit for food and refreshments. Unknown if dog friendly. Definitely somewhere that we will visit regularly! Do say hello if you see us. We are always happy to have a chat. Very near Carterton town that has all the amenities that one can expect. Will return again, soon.
Little village and lovely spot for a nice evening walk. Calm and pleasant atmosphere. Benches looking over the small river.
Such a lovely spot! If you happen to be in the area you should definitely have a walk in the surroundings... there are even lamas near by! An ideal spot for families, for kids to walk around (avoid the roads though as cars tend to pass by fairly fast) and in general for a taste of the amazing British countryside
Took the dogs for a swim and they had a fantastic time! We take them here regularly in the summer for some swimming fun and games.
Very pretty area, nice public footpath walks, pub nearby with good food if you eat meat, beautiful houses.
The Ford was fine, not too deep
