This historic estate in Bedfordshire, England, showcases a stunning collection of vintage aircraft, motorcars, and motorcycles. The attraction features a vast hangar housing over 50 historic aircraft, including iconic planes like the Spitfire, Hurricane, and Lancaster Bomber. Visitors can explore the aircraft up close, learn about their history, and even take a guided tour. The motorcar section boasts an impressive display of vintage vehicles, including racing cars, motorcycles, and buses. The attraction also offers a recreation of a 1930s-style village, complete with period shops, a village pub, and a working workshop where visitors can see restoration projects in progress.
Grandson enjoyed the history in the museum. There's a trail for children to follow and collect the autographs of people who made history. Also a tick list to find vehicles and aircraft. The Swiss gardens gave us a chance to explore safely and are outstanding. We went on a day where classic cars were on display outside and the Cambridge flying club were in attendance so plenty of action in the sky of various old planes taking off. The restaurant does a variety of hot/ cold dishes at reasonable prices. Overall a brilliant day out.
This is a lovely little place for families, couples, enthusiasts and anyone wanting a coffee and a walk. The gardens are just gorgeous especially in the summer and there's often events on to enjoy. The cafe is always fab, lots of food to choose from and they're always very prompt. I find the museum is extensive in it's displays and the shop is well stocked with goodies. I enjoy it, as does my little boy who can't get enough of the bright flowers and wooded walks! There's also an excellent, large playground I would recommend.
Great place to go and hide from the miserable weather. I'd have given it 5 stars, but it was so cold in the hangers that I had to don my gloves to keep my hands warm. Also, the admission is a little pricey at PS15 for what is in effect an aircraft museum. I didn't walk around the Swiss Gardens as it was bucketing down most of the afternoon. However, I will say that all the volunteers were more than willing to chat about the projects that are going on, and were very knowledgeable.
Excellent museum with a varied and interesting collection of aircraft. The site is dog friendly, but dogs are not allowed in the hangars.
