A 240-hectare nature reserve featuring a diverse range of habitats including wet grasslands, reedbeds, and open water, providing a haven for wildlife such as otters, water voles, and birds, with walking trails, hides, and viewpoints offering opportunities for exploration and observation.
Skerne wetlands is a tranquil nature reserve. There is a notice at the entrance with the footpaths marked on the map. There is a small car park. The road to the wetlands is very rough and potholed. Top hill, low, and north cave wetlands are better and have decent facilities.
Excellent site. Now on of my favourite places to visit. So much to see, and so well managed.
Spend most of my free days at YWT Skerne Wild Wetlands Doing Work for the trust, Enjoy almost every minute spent there Lovely walks at the end of the day around the reserve watching Kingfishers, Marsh Harriers and Water Voles, Barn Owls and Otters to name just a few of some of the fantastic wildlife in this wild wilderness
Beautiful tranquil place. Lovely marked out routes to follow. We saw 2 Herons very close...watched birds of prey in the long reeds and heard an otter. Absolutely brilliant if you like a quiet afternoon in nature.
The access to this site is down an unsurfaced road so maybe don't wash your car the morning before your visit but once you're there it's brilliant. Great for wildlife and photography.
Beautiful wetlands and chalk stream, lots of wildlife and no dogs!
