Slit Woods is a mystical ancient woodland in the heart of the English countryside, shrouded in mystery and legend. The woods are characterized by towering trees, their gnarled branches twisted and tangled, their trunks thick and sturdy. The air is thick with the scent of damp earth and decaying leaves, and the canopy overhead filters the sunlight, casting dappled shadows on the forest floor. A carpet of ferns, wildflowers, and moss covers the ground, and the sound of birdsong and rustling leaves fills the air.
Lovely walk up the river side to the mines. It isn't a well signposted walks as it feels as if you approach from someone's garden. We parked opposite the caravan park near a sign that says leading to weeds. There is a series of small waterfalls all the way up to the mine. The mine itself is a fantastic place for a picnic and very interesting.
Lovely quiet walk alongside the waterfalls, if you visit in April and may you will find an abundance of wild garlic growing along the pathways, the old lead mine was a nice surprise, be aware there are no dog poo bins anywhere so be prepared to carry your bounty all the way with you.
Absolutely stunning place to walk and relax. Really peaceful footpath along the river through the old mine area and further into the hills. The footpath has recently been repaired in places that were falling into the river, and the bridges have been replaced with new ones. Lots of work has been done to preserve the area and it shows. 10/10 will visit again.
