Snake Pass Summit is a mountain pass in the Peak District National Park, Derbyshire, England. It is located at an elevation of 1,697 feet (517 meters) above sea level, making it one of the highest points in the national park. The pass is surrounded by heather-covered moorland and offers breathtaking views of the Dark Peak and the Edale Valley. On a clear day, visitors can see as far as the Welsh Mountains to the west and the Yorkshire Dales to the north. The area is popular for hiking, with several trails converging at the summit, including the Pennine Way and the Snake Pass Trail. The scenery is dramatic, with rocky outcrops, peat bogs, and fast-flowing streams. The summit itself is marked by a trig point, a concrete pillar used for surveying and mapping.
I parked just past here in a lay by called doctors gate and explored that area and the opposite moorland and oh my gosh I walked down the river and managed to find a waterfall and dip in the stream Brilliant walk and dip Loved it Hidden gem
Wow! I won't ever get tired of visiting the Peak District, there are so many places to explore and many beautiful things to see (sadly there are bits of rubbish appearing :( - it should go without saying but please make sure to take your rubbish away with you, there are towns on your route there and back from the Summit where you can bin your rubbish .) Snake pass summit is just glorious. The views are outstanding, the road can be deadly due to the ground falling away and people often having accidents, (when the Snake Pass is closed, the alternative route takes quite sometime..) just be very careful when driving around the Peak District and don't speed along - the views are too nice to miss!
Great hiking spot with historical significance! Snake Pass Summit is an excellent place for a hike, especially if you're interested in visiting the B-29 crash site. The trail is well worth the effort, offering stunning views along the way. Be sure to download offline maps before you start walking, as cell service is spotty, and it's easy to get lost without a map. The path to the crash site is not well-marked, so come prepared. The site itself is both eerie and fascinating--a somber reminder of history nestled in a beautiful landscape. Highly recommended for those seeking adventure and a bit of history!
We drove up from ladybower reservoir to snake pass summit, you can see why it's one of the best roads in Britain to drive, we went in October and the colours were amazing, unfortunately upon reaching the summit you couldn't see 100 yards Infront of you, just shows you how quick the weather can change around here. Definitely worth the drive, free parking available at the summit, but I wouldn't say loads of parking.
Fantastic woodland walk - NationalTrust. If you search snake pass and found a parking along both sides of the roads free. After you park up, you can explore Botha side of the hiking tracks. We walked -about an hour but I think you could go much further. Definitely worth to use your hike boots as part of it can get quite muddy. One of must go attractions in Peak District. You can see the snake pass summit and Manchester in the distance. Fantastic view. We just love it.
Leave no trace, thems the rules, always have been and always will be! I cleared 2 bin bags full of rubbish dumped there and there were still loads more! Great parking for bleaklow and the B29 crash site and Higher Shelf Stones for great views
