This reserve is a vast, wetland expanse of peat bogs, heathland, and grassland, home to a diverse range of flora and fauna. The landscape is dotted with numerous pools, streams, and wet flushes, creating a haven for wildlife such as otters, water voles, and breeding birds like curlews and lapwings. The reserve's unique geology has resulted in the formation of a variety of peatland habitats, including raised bogs, valley bogs, and string flarks, which support a wide array of plant species, including sphagnum mosses, cross-leaved heath, and bog cotton.
