This iconic pier in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, stretches 1.34 miles into the Thames Estuary, making it the longest pleasure pier in the world. Built in 1830, the pier has undergone several renovations and extensions, with its current structure featuring a modern, sleek design. Visitors can walk or take a train along the pier, taking in the stunning views of the estuary and the surrounding coastline. The pier is also home to several amusement arcades, food stalls, and restaurants, as well as a museum and an amusement park at the shore end. At the far end of the pier, a lifeboat station and a navigation light mark the pier's extremity.
One of my favourite piers in the country. Not a whole lot to do at the end, but it's well worth coming to for just the views alone. I saved a bit of money and did the 'Walk and Ride' option in which I took the train to the end of the pier and walked back to the shore. It was a nice experience walking back and didn't take nearly as long as I thought it would. Next time I come here, I think I'll just walk both ways. Be sure to come here if you're ever in Southend on a nice day.
Visited the world longest pleasure pier in the world. Really enjoyable visit. I would definitely recommend getting the train back and forth along the pier though as it's about a 30 minute walk one way at a brisk pace. Not a huge amount to do at the end of the pier,a pricey cafe, some funfair mirrors and lots of people fishing. However the RNLI station is worth a visit and obviously the views are brilliant.
Lovely peaceful coffee at the end of the pier. Watch the ships sail past and get some lovely views back to the shoreline.. could be more to do.up the pier and it's quite expensive now for the train but still a nice way to spend an hour or 2 on a sunny day..
Sunshine, cloudy, windy or rain; Southend Pier is the ultimate attraction itself. A brisk one mile walk off the coast to the far deep, ocean waves chopping metres from your side Drawing energy from the water and finding the brief connection whilst strolling to the end. The end walk introduces itself to a larger area highlighted with cafes, food stalls, and plenty of seating locations. A little train runs along the pier if you decide not to walk back A few hours of your day. Well worth the visit. And a reason to always return
Got train for fishing off the end of pier. Walked back. People are friendly , Lovely large restaurant to eat or takeaway very reasonable prices. Turnstone birds Kept me company while I found a secluded spot to read my book Out of. The wind while my companions got on with their fishing.
The ticket office was easy to access and understand. The staff were very helpful. I was lazy and took the train to reach the end of the pier, since it is over 2 km long. There were several cafes and restaurants to choose from. The lifeboat museum and the pier museum were very interesting. The longest pier in the world is definitely worth a visit.
