We're the home of Filey Bay, Yorkshire single malt whisky and for us it's about doing things properly. That's why we're obsessed with every step of the distilling process, from field to bottle with 100% homegrown barley from our farm. It's not just made in Yorkshire, it's Made of Yorkshire. Visit us for the distillery shop, tours three times a day, as well as the Pot Still Coffee Shop where we serve breakfasts, lunches and homemade cakes seven days a week. *** DeliciouslyYorkshire 'Best Spirit' 2023 Yorkshire Life 'Best Drink' 2023 Yorkshire Post 'Best Rural Product' 2023 World Whisky Masters 7 Golds, 2023 Whiskies of the World 'Best in Class' White Rose Awards "Small Visitor Attraction of the Year" 2019 Visit England Accredited Tour
Wanted to use cafe as our train had been cancelled. 3 children with us. This cafe doesn't like walk ins. Even when I've called in on my own. Good place for Boomers and Dinks with loads of time on their hands for making bookings and planning their boring days. I book The Ritz and Clariges and wouldn't dream of booking a cafe in Hunmanby. Get over yourselves....
Had a hugely enjoyable tour round the distillery from a very informative, interesting and friendly guide, finishing off with samples of three quite different whiskies, all of which were very drinkable. Was offered the opportunity to try others as well, and plumped for a very tasty IPA cask one, really good so bought a bottle. The tour was excellent value considering the choice of whiskies and the fact that you can keep the tasting glass. Love the ethos of the owners in using all local produce and going for quality over mass production. Only regret is that we didn't try the cafe, this will be remedied next time. So good to see this happen in Yorkshire.
Now, I know what you're thinking. "Oh yeah, 5 stars? Really?" But you can trust me. I'm not one of those reviewers who just stick 5 stars on when a place should have 4. The Yorkshire Distillery (home of the Filey Bay single malt whisky) deserves all of those 5 stars. We went to their excellent coffee shop, the Pot Still, for an afternoon tea as a birthday treat. Out of the windows, you can see the distillery in one direction and the open countryside of Yorkshire in the other. The sandwiches were beautifully made. A choice of tuna and cucumber, cheese and pickle, ham and cream cheese with cress. Also a couple of slices of cheese quiche and a dressed salad. The sandwiches were cut into finger sized pieces. Very moreish! We had 2 generous pots of tea, which were refreshed for us. And the desserts? Mini Victoria sponge cake with strawberry jam, chocolate brownie, fruit cake with Filey Bay whisky, and fruited scones with jam and clotted cream. The staff were absolutely brilliant. Very attentive and so helpful. The prices are about what you'd expect for an afternoon tea of this quality (and quantity!) We were offered boxes to take home the cakes we didn't manage to eat. Now we are looking at the calendar to see if there's another family birthday coming up!
We enjoyed the amazing ploughman's board and homemade cakes on two visits to the distillery during our stay in Filey. Lovely friendly staff in the shop and the cafe, and beautiful fresh local produce. We also purchased a gorgeous hand sculpture of a sheep called Eunice, by a local artist Sharon Westmoreland. Final mention goes to the lady running the shop. She was a mine of information on all things distillery, and the local area.
It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the whisky is phenomenal (STR is my favourite) and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The free samples are very generous!
We stopped here for lunch on our way to Filey. We had the share platter. It was delicious and enough for a light lunch. The blue cheese from Shepherds Purse was a light blue perfect for lunch. Would recommend. Bought a whiskey selection box , which we look forward to trying.
