This nature reserve features a variety of habitats, including sand dunes, saltmarsh, and freshwater habitats, providing a haven for a diverse range of wildlife. The reserve is home to a wide range of bird species, including avocets, bearded tits, and marsh harriers, as well as other wildlife such as otters, water voles, and natterjack toads. The visitor centre offers interactive displays and educational activities, while the car park provides easy access to the reserve's trails and scenic views.
Great facilities. Motorhome friendly. Stunning location, extremely clean and well kept. Good information signage and beautiful surroundings. Dog bowls for water Perfect for families and dog walkers. It was not too busy and plenty of car spaces all day at the weekend in early March. Trails might not be appropriate for people with limited mobility or pushchairs, there are toilets, unsheltered areas of seating at the start of the trails and a indoor visitors centre. Edit review: Dedicated bays for motorhome parking in the day, also permitted to park in available spaces over night. CDP for black waste disposal. There is a visitors centre, picnic benches and toilets also. ScotNature provide enough staff to keep the site well maintained and the carpark policed Suggested donation for campervans - it is worth it and well worth a visit if you're visiting East coast of Scotland. We had only planned to stay a night to visit the beach only, but it was too lovely. We stayed three nights, to enjoy a different trail a different day as our dog is arthritic and can't walk too far in one go. It is only two night stay. One of the site wardens asked how long we had stayed, she stated that the visitor centre had not been open and "so there has been no one here"...... No one here to ..what? To police our stay? Monitor how many nights? Evict us? The blunted affect and tone was passive aggressive, she was notably irritated by our presence. I was advised it was two nights only (the variable that mattered was how busy the carpark was/is) which she had the nous to acknowledge. We were not aware of this rule and especially as other vans had stayed longer, thought it ok. Mea Culpa - and now we know! Sadly, the net result of her interaction (and the subtext) was to tell us we had overstayed our welcome. It was the opposite of a welcome - to a couple of hippy honeymooners Note to motorhomers - leave nothing but footsteps, and maybe a donation, DO avoid disgruntling petty bureaucrats.
Plenty of parking right near the reserve. The reserve and beach are beautiful, even on a cloudy day. It wasn't too busy and was great for the dog to run around.
Beautifal place! Great walk along the beach and up the cliffs, amazing views!
Great job on the new parking facilities, however, the motorhome area is very steep and does not make for a welcoming stopover. Even the most experienced drivers would be hard pushed to level up a vehicle here!. There are other areas which are quite level but are only designed for car-sized vehicles. When I visited on Monday, there was an oldrr and inconsiderate couple taking up 2 spaces as they thought they were very entitled and could do what they liked in the car park as they had a campervan. This type of behaviour should not be tolerated, you know who you are, beware in future as not all members of the public are so tolerant!! Other than that I had a pleasant stay, the facilities are now outstanding, kept very clean and tidy, toilets were exceptional, all brand new, but one wonders how long they will last if people like the 'entitled ' couple have their way!! Keep up the good work rangers, you are all doing a fantastic job, well done to you!!
Defo worth a visit - a gorgeous beach as far as the eye can see, and beautifully kept. Bird hides were spacious and warm, perfectly placed to see the array of bird species on the water. Visitor centre was very helpful and provided fantastic information about some of the species we could expect to see. Toilet facilities were available, and there was ample car parking.
Absolutely breathtaking. Can't wait to come back! The cliffs were beautiful and you could watch fulmers, peregrine falcons, and kestrels. Some local lore in the kirkyard which was fun to stumble across. The beach is long and wide and at the north end there is a waterfall tucked away. Flowers were in full bloom with lots of pollinators.
