This 12th-century church is a stunning example of Norman architecture, featuring a striking tower, beautiful stone carvings, and intricate stained-glass windows. The church's interior is adorned with ornate tombs, monuments, and memorials, including the impressive tomb of St. Arild, a 12th-century bishop. The building's exterior is equally impressive, with a picturesque churchyard surrounded by ancient stone walls and featuring a medieval holy well.
It is a hidden gem. One of the favourite churches of King Charles III. I totally understand why he likes this place. You can simply sit there, in the church yard or inside the church and you can easily regain your energy and calm yourself by the peace surrounding this place or by the view from the hill. It is worth a visit. Many local people look after this place by planting tulip bulbs and other flowers. ( Well done and thanks for your work) Locals are friendly and chatty. I met the local vicar, who gave me a nice guidance inside and around the church. It has its own interesting history and a bit of royal connection as well.
This 13thc church looked after by the church conservation trust, was a difficult one to get too (or perhaps I went the wrong way, through a gate, uphill a long a muddy lane) . The interior is mainly Georgian though half the box pews are missing. , there are fragments of medieval glass and a nice simple 18thc font. But the bottom line is it didn't hold a lot of interest though it is situated with nice views.
Interesting church in beautiful location. Well worth a visit!
A very quaint church situated in a very rural area which is stopped with history.
Lot's of history to this church and lovely walks
Beautiful
