St Bees Priory, a 12th-century monastery, stands as a testament to the region's rich history, its imposing structure a blend of Romanesque and Gothic architectural styles. The priory's impressive facade features a striking rose window, while its interior boasts intricate stone carvings, stunning stained-glass windows, and a tranquil atmosphere.
Lovely Church with great light show on the day we attended. A few low steps to navigate to get into the building and limited car park.
Lovely old priory church. Easy parking. Fabulous west doorway. Good info boards. Lots to see. Medieval effigies and other monuments, St Bega's statue, etc. Window featuring St Bega is hidden by the vestry but if you can climb on a chair (or the stepladder inadvertantly provided!), you get a reasonable view of it.
Wonderful church with a great exhibition about the artifacts and bodies found during excavations.
Nice experience. Family tree took us here where my 12th grandfather was christened in 1565 but as i understand has been a religious site pre Norman. Lovely stained glass windows. Worth a visit.
Beautiful historic priory with lots of fascinating information about the local history and the St Bees man.
It was all closed up and looked uninviting the two times I walked past.
