St Conan's Kirk is a working church and a leading Argyll Tourist Attraction. It was designed by one man who was his own architect and benefactor and includes a wide range of ecclesiastical styles to give an amazing unique and atmospheric building. The gardens also offer views across Loch Awe. It is open to visitors except during special events and church services. It is often referred to as a hidden gem but is just off the A85 Oban to Tyndrum Road in the village of Lochawe. The gatehouse tearoom is open most days from April to October. Entrance to the Kirk is by donation.
A beautiful place on Lake Awe. 19Th century construction maintained with voluntary donations. A beautiful piece of architecture in the wonderful circumstances of nature. You will also find a small cafe where you can have a sandwich and a cup of coffee or tea.
What a piece of architecture. Well worth a visit and experience the blend of so many different styles in such a small and newish church. I recommend lovely choclate/coconut cupcakes that I had a chance to try in the tea room with super strong coffee
a beautiful church located on the edge of the lake, with an impressive architecture, built with a special talent. A top 10 church for me, it's a free entrance but also you can donate cash or by card , it's deserved.
Although it is relatively modern (built in the late 1880's), the Kirk contains a fascinating mixture of architectural styles. There is a fair sized car park as well as parking across the street. The tea room was not open during our visit. Donations are welcomed. For me, the highlight was the Bruce Chapel; the alabaster face glows against the stone and carved wood. We wandered through the Kirk for about an hour, finding many intriguing details.
Passed this church on the many times driving up to Oban but never stopped until today. Well worth stopping and having a look around inside and outside with its spectacular location on the side of the loch. Small car park at the church but also two lay-bys on either side of the road. The stained glass windows inside were absolutely beautiful along with the timber roof that can be viewed from inside. The atmosphere was very serene and peaceful. Could just sit and contemplate in this beautiful setting. Entry is via a donation which is payable by cash or card.
Beautiful church for taking in some history and some amazing photo opportunities. The arched room was stunning inside and out. It also included some distance views of some castle ruins.
