Venerable 16th century artillery fortress, with scenic water views & summertime outdoor theater.
I am continually amazed by these unique architectural landmarks of history. There are still many well-preserved castles in England, and this is truly delightful. Although St Mawes Castle is relatively small compared to others, it still offers an interesting experience. A coastal fortress that has stood the test of time. The beautiful nature, stunning views, and overall charm of this place create an unforgettable experience.
Lovely spot, nice to amble around. It is small and there us not much to it. But it in good condition with fantastic views. You can also catch a ferry just down the road to Falmouth to see its larger twin on the other side if the estuary... this makes a great day out!
Interesting and enjoyable place to visit. The views over the river are stunning and the castle, though quite small, is very well preserved.
We are English Heritage members so usually cater our holidays around making the most off our membership, we had already visited Pendenis Castle so new we just had to also visit St Mawes, beautiful little castle with 7 floors all accessible via steps we had a good look around and really enjoyed it! I definitely recommend a visit nice well kept grounds to, the 2 guys in the shop also super nice and welcoming, short walk into the small town after had a really nice visit!
Great little castle. Its a cool little bit of history. Well preserved, but not to the extent that you are aware that you are in a tourist attraction. Its quite nice!
This well-preserved coastal fortress, built by Henry VIII in the 16th century, offers fantastic views over the Carrick Roads. The castle's circular design and detailed architecture are impressive, and the informative exhibits provide great historical context.
