St Michael's Mount is a magical place. This was my first visit and I was lucky the weather was beautiful. I got to the car park early to make sure I would get a space and to take some photos before it got too busy. I wanted the experience of walking the causeway both ways so I did that long before my ticket time as I would be getting the boat back. The walk up to the castle was steep in places and uneven but certainly manageable, even for myself who has osteoarthritis. After the castle visit, I sat for a while enjoying the sun and the view on the main lawn before having afternoon tea at the harbour loft. It was exceptional and the service was great. The boat back was very fast and the turnaround quick. Don't be put off by the long queues as they go down fast. Such an amazing experience. Definitely worth a visit.
It's worth the visit. Strongly recommend going on a day when low tide is relatively early in the morning and getting across as soon as you can as there are no real limits on how many people they let across and it can get very busy. The castle/home itself is quite nice. Really enjoyed the gardens. Many people take picnics etc and spend the day there. Would like to do that myself next time.
St Michael's Mount is truly a wonderful place! The island is impressive with its uniqueness, and the remarkable phenomenon of the tides that hide the path to the castle is particularly noteworthy. This adds a special charm and creates an unforgettable experience for visitors. Besides the castle itself, the garden and the surrounding landscapes are simply breathtaking. I highly recommend checking the weather before your trip to fully enjoy the beauty of this place without any inconvenience. A visit here is truly an unforgettable experience!
St Michael's Mount is a stunning place that's well worth a visit. There is parking nearby but careful planning for a visit is essential not least because this is a hugely popular location with several thousand visitors per day not unusual. The castle is remarkable and the walk across the causeway to it can be a bit bumpy and you need to plan the timing of your visit in light of the tides. There are also some steps so a reasonable level of fitness is needed. If you're in the area then a visit is highly recommended.
You have to book, even if you area national trust member, and then you need to check if the causeway will Be open so you know if it's ok to cross by foot, or if you need to book a crossing by boat. Then when you arrive at Marazion, you need to check which departure point of three the boats are leaving from. If you travel by boat, they leave as soon as they are full, which can be every couple of minutes. The staff and volunteers on both sides are warm and welcoming, and incredibly knowledgeable about St Michael's Mount and its history as a monastery, a garrison and a private ancestral home. When you reach the harbour on the island you have a choice of exploring the gardens or climbing to the castle to explore the building. Both are fascinating, and both involve steep and uneven climbs, not easy for the infirm or unfit! I'd recommend allowing a good 3 hours to cross, and explore gardens and castle, and take refreshments. The Harbour Loft afternoon tea is exquisite. Not cheap, but a lovely treat. The Castle is an amazing building full.of surprises connected.to it's varied history. Speak to the volunteers, they have so much to pass on. The Gardens are beautiful, full.of amazing and varied plants. If you like Alpines and Succulents you're in for a real.treat.
It has been a great visit to St Michael's Mount today. We booked the boat and entrance before we went and we walked to the harbour at 12.00 where the tickets were checked and we waited until the boat was full. After a few minutes we were there...very nice. Visited the shop and went to find the entrance of the castle. It is really high and we visited the entrance, drawing room, other rooms and outside the castle. The guides were very helpful in telling histories and enjoying their job. We walked quite a lot to the castle and back and also walked back as the tide went down. It is a very recommended visit.
