A tranquil and picturesque beach with soft white sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters, surrounded by rugged cliffs and scenic coastal paths, offering breathtaking views of the Irish Sea and the Isle of Man on a clear day.
The weather was not great. The beach is really a causeway / spit with the sea on both sides. In the winter the sea crosses the beach. We had a good walk across and around the headlands. The cliffs are dramatic, lots of sea birds, for those with interest in these things. We saw some seals on the cliffs.
Visited here on a Monday afternoon, parking is ok ,beautiful views in all directions, white sandy Tombolo you can walk across the sand to the other side where you can see loads of rabbit burrows so pretty with the shapes they have made, perfect place to chill and enjoy, no charge for parking, no facilities.
It is beautiful beach and easy to visit. We traveled by bus number 6 from Lerwick then transferred to number 7 (it is a van). The beach is actually connected to the St Ninian's Isles, but when we arrived the tide is high so we didn't have a chance to cross to the isle. It is better to check the tide before and in my case the lowest tide is 5:30pm.
One of the most famous beaches in the UK and certainly in Shetland. Good parking and access. Often bust over the summer with cruise ship visitors.
A stunning, clean beach, a great walk to the island on the other side, plenty of seating and bins. Toilets a few minutes walk up the road in the village which has a lovely shop too.
St. Ninians Beach is located in Shetland. It has a very special beach and beautiful scenery.
On-site services
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
