This medieval fortress sits atop a hill in South Yorkshire, its ruins a testament to the region's rich history. The castle's stone walls, though crumbling, still exude a sense of grandeur, with towers and battlements that evoke a bygone era. The surrounding landscape, with its rolling hills and verdant forests, adds to the castle's romantic allure. Visitors can explore the castle's remains, including the Great Hall, the chapel, and the curtain walls, gaining insight into the lives of the nobles who once called this place home.
Nice, easy access and good quality NT property. No gift shop (), but saved a few quid to spend in the cafe instead. Attractive gardens and parkland, get quite close to the deer population. Muddy in places, good walking shoes/boots recommended.
Lovely castle and a fantastic view from the top. (Was quite proud of going up all of the steps and looking out from the very top, as I don't like heights).
What a wonderful property! I had an absolute blast seeing all the sights! I wish they had educational stands at each attraction to teach us when and why it was build. The ground are phenomenally beautiful! And for PS5 you have so much to see! There is even a kids play area that's enormous! Ice cream is sold. Gently used library! And the castle grounds are very cool!
Really enjoyed walking around and looking at the grounds and ruins. You can even climb to the top of one of the towers. The view is beautiful!!
Always a lovely day with the kids and rarely do we ever find it too busy. Lots to explore. Lovely cafe on site and a brilliant playground as well as the castle itself
Plenty of parking, lovely open space, kids activities
Good for kids
