The perfect family day-out. Beautiful gardens, a thrilling programme of exhibitions, an outdoor children's play area and the largest carriage collection in Europe. And it's free, so you could say, your carriage awaits... Our museum galleries bring the stories of local people to life, dating back from prehistoric times to the present day! Top tip - keep an eye out for the Wenlock Jug, a rare medieval masterpiece. Our Garden Cafe is open for refreshments and we also do afternoon tea. In fact, people love Stockwood Discovery Centre so much it won a Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence.
Lovely place to visit with a whole family, it's free, it's interesting, full of exciting exhibitions for fans of history, although a lot of places (especially greenhouses in the gardens) seemed unaccessible on our recent visit. There're a coffee shop, toilets, and playgrounds. The staff is kind, and the gift shop has a lot of lovely knicknacks. Fantastic place for a walk or picnic, but some parts of the gardens seem a little run down recently.
Stockwood is a favourite of ours! Completely free although you may pay a small fee for the Summer exhibition. We went to Game Up today which kept all of us completely entertained - adults and children. The rest of the museum is also very interesting and there are plenty of interactive bits for the children. Make sure you find your way to the Discovery Galleries which are in the old stable block the other side of the stunning gardens. There is a fabulous play area for all ages of children, plus a cafe with lots of indoor anf outdoor seating. The older children loved playing hide and seek and tag in the maze of walled gardens. Stockwood is a place we come back to, time and again!
What a lovely place. Everyone is very nice at the Gift shop & Cafe and Museum. The gardens and surrounding grounds have been beautifully cared for (even during the winter time). We especially enjoyed the ornamental garden/allotment at the end of the gardens path. The friendly and chirpy hen that's living in the allotment part of the garden was very sweet and she was flourishing despite her past life (she's a rescued hen), it'd be nice to see her with a companion in her enclosure on our next visit (if she'd like the company). The museum is very interesting and I could've spent more time there for sure :). I'd highly recommend that you visit the museum and gardens if you get the chance.
What a fantastic find. So far, I've had a wander about the stable block galleries and the beautiful gardens. There's been no charge, except for the lunch I've just got from the cafe. The food was good with a resonable choice for a little place. There's plenty of seating both inside and out and a quiet room for those who need a place away from children. I'm looking forward to exploring further and turning it into a good day out.
Went for the Illuminated lights, honestly one of the most beautiful light shows I've been to, so, those of you looking for nature and beauty, check for more light shows here! Used to come to the museum as a kid, and it still fills me with joy to see that they have kept the exhibits as well as updated the play areas so that it's definitely a good family place to go!
Perfect place for a picnic, or a coffee at the cafe. Beautiful gardens to take a stroll around. We even saw a couple having wedding photos done. Great little play area for children and lots of exhibits where you can learn about the history of Luton. They also run many other activities at different times. There was a old skool arcade and games thing going on at the time of our visit.
