This ancient woodland is a haven for nature lovers and history enthusiasts alike. The common's undulating terrain is dotted with ancient trees, including gnarled oaks and beeches, their twisted branches a testament to the passing of time. A network of winding paths and trails invites exploration, leading visitors through a tapestry of woodland habitats, from sun-dappled glades to shaded valleys. The air is alive with the songs of birds and the rustle of leaves, while the scent of wildflowers and damp earth fills the senses. As the seasons change, Stoke Common is reborn, its beauty evolving with each new dawn.
A large open common, quite wild (at least feels wild, like a mini Dartmoor) but is right in the centre of Stoke Poges, Fulmer etc. Some flooding in the winter months, can be quite exposed and muddy, and some exits are onto fast roads with no pavements.
Nice but very wet in winter. Wellies recommended
Great place. Good for a walk, bike ride or a run. Nature at its best. Wild cattle are there but you'd be lucky to see them as the area is quite large with trees, bushes and thick vegetation. Some parts remind me of New Forest. Most pathways are just gravel with some parts grassy which can get muddy at times. I always enjoy having a break from my bike ride here, sitting on one of the wooden benches while eating my sandwich in a peaceful setting. Well worth a visit.
Rare habitat of lowland heathland. Lovely for flat walks on good paths but take wellies in winter
Still like this place. yes, it may not have the toilets, caffes and other creature comforts, but it is a great close to nature place and the one I would love to visit again and again
Well it's not bad but definitely not great is basically a bog with water logged ground all over the place
Good for kids
Dogs allowed
