The grounds and interior spaces at Stott Park bobbin mill are open. Measures are still in place to keep everyone safe, and you need to book your visit in advance. Find out more below.
I know what you're thinking. Is it really going to be that interesting, but it genuinely was a fascinating look at an industry from a bygone age. The tour was superb and gave us working demonstrations of the machinery - make sure you time it right so you can go on one, it was about 45 minutes long. Our two boys aged 7 and 10 found it very interesting and it was pitched at such a level that everyone could get something out of it. There was a real love for the Mill shown by the staff and they knew their stuff too. Admittedly, as with most English Heritage sites the entry price can seem a bit steep but you do see where it's going and why it's worth supporting somewhere like this. For members it is free and would be worth signing up if you're going anywhere else run by them.
Very interesting visit, really nice to see in operation (the steam days when they actually use the steam machine might be great!). The staff and guide were friendly, extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Even our dog loved all the staff Highly recommend.
Guided tour in small groups, very informative with some working demonstrations of a couple of the processes. Look out for the steam days when the old steam boiler is fired up to demonstrate a more authentic working experience.
The tour was excellent. Not just very informative and interesting, but it was wonderful to see one of the lines powered up and to see some of the machines in action. It really brought history alive. We were also lucky to be in a very small group and our guide was superb at answering questions. We were a family group with kids of 10 and 12. We all enjoyed it and got a lot out of it educationally too. (We visited a week or two ago)
Very interesting old woodworking factory. A very knowledgeable guide gave us a tour of the mill and demonstrated how the various lathes worked to produce the bobbing.
A great demonstration of how they worked in the factory and its operation. These types of visits help us understand what has changed and how lucky we are to have social progress. The perfect deal, it includes an outdoor track game for the children, we had a great time.
