Guided tours of restored WWI aerodrome housing original remains of RAF operations buildings.
First visit to Stow Maries for me and what a brilliant, brilliant site, steeped in history and atmosphere. The largest WW1 aerodrome in Europe and greatest collection of intact RFC buildings was the venue for the Living History WW1 weekend. Absolutely superb. Welcoming, accommodating and knowledgable staff, excellent value for money, OUTSTANDING food, exceptional facilities and interesting, informative collections. A wonderful site and well worth a good, long visit.
Went there on Living History event. Active airfield with restored buildings showing extensive museum details of WW1 on the home front and more. Very enthusiastic and helpful volunteers. Large cafe serving sandwiches and meals and hot/cold drinks. Gift shop.
Being a great war aviation buff, this is one of my favourite hangouts. For true fans, I recommend their Propeller Club. But the venue also has much to see for families, the historically interested and wildlife lovers. The bridlife around this place is amazing. You can also enjoy teas, coffees, cakes and hot meals at the officers mess. The most of your visit will, however, be made during one of their events.
Went to the Wings and Wheels event. Incredibly well organised. Plenty of parking. Cafe, bbq and bar. Aircraft doing displays, lots of cars and motorbikes. Interesting museum. Gift shop. Talented blacksmith selling lovely items. Friendly and helpful volunteers. Very clean site. Well worth a visit, would recommend, especially for an event. *track to the carpark is quite bumpy and maybe hard for low profile cars. *walking around on grass, wear sensible shoes! *chairs available, but lots of people, I would take our own camp chairs next time.
WW1 living history event, absolutely superb, so much information and the re-enactors were brilliant! Congratulations on a successful event.
Visited today for the large RC aircraft display. Purchased tickets via the online link provided advertising the event. Some very impressing and no doubt very expensive models performing the usual stunts .... plenty of food and drink places with local ales on tap for those who didn't have to drive for a change :<)
