Heritage steam locomotive rides between Aviemore & Broomhill, with afternoon tea in a dining car.
Fantastic day out, staff were great, special thanks to the engine drivers so friendly. Lovely slow pace and such a smooth scenic journey. We had the light lunch in first class which was served to us. Thanks for a great day out
Great way to spend a couple of hours, with the period correct styling of the carriages, stations, tickets and even the uniforms of the staff you really get a feeling of yesteryear. And you can tell most of the staff (mainly volunteers) do it because they enjoy it themselves. Something special about seeing a little bit of the Highlands in a steam train. And it's even dog friendly
TLDR; I would 10/10 recommend this for a great experience at a super reasonable price, from the lovely outdoorsy town of Aviemore. We did an Afternoon Tea on the Strathspey Railway - chose it because the Jacobite train station initially was full, but then that got cancelled for duration of our trip! So this worked out. Honestly in the end though - this was so enjoyable! Was about 2 hours total with a couple stops along the way. The service was very friendly. Atmosphere felt very cool on the train; classic steam train feel and sounds. Our son (3yrs old) LOVED it - being up close to a steam train with strong "Thomas the Tank Engine" vibes. The actual afternoon tea was amazing. The tiered food tray was stocked full and delicious. Tea choices were limited but could have endless hot water.
Great old steam train, beautiful depot and scenery. Rode in first class car had tea and biscuits. Everything was clean and well kept, happy to still see these classic trains still going. You can go online and donate to help keep them running!
We enjoyed a delicious home made afternoon tea, with sandwiches, scones and cakes. Lovely restored railway and a perfect train ride through stunning scenery with the River Spey, accompanied by friendly and welcoming staff. Highly recommend and looking forward to going again
Lovely part of historical Scotland. The views weren't what I had imagined but I still had a great time riding the train. The staff were lovely.
