A wealth of wildlife in a beautiful setting. You'll find Strumpshaw Fen on the River Yare in Norfolk, around six miles east of Norwich. Giving homes to some of our rarest and most threatened wildlife including bittern, marsh harrier, kingfisher, otter and swallowtail butterfly. There is a small visitor centre, parking, self-serve cafe, toilets, picnic area and wildlife walks. Dogs are not permitted due to the sensitive nature of the wildlife habitats.
Great time watching Marsh Harriers, baby swans. Wonderful walks, helpful staff. Wonderful to be outdoors here. Plenty to see during this month, the walks were fine for walking, not too wet. Boats on the river, Bitterns can be heard. The hides are well kept and great for bird watching with a flask of tea. Great few hours here, well worth being an RSPB member
Very calm and tranquil place to visit. We saw plenty of wildlife which I failed to get pictures of.
We spent most of a day here, doing the short family-friendly walk and then the longer walk, stopping at the hides. We didn't see a huge amount owing to the time of year. However the hides were in good condition. Would have been even better if it was a more interesting time of year! Parking is free for members, and there are toilet facilities on site. Would love to return some time.
Strumpshaw Fen is a glorious nature reserve to visit full of beautiful creatures if you are quiet enough to see them. We are now members of the RSPB and look forward to revisiting Strumpshaw Fem throughout the seasons. We were very lucky to see the wonderful Scarlet Elf Cup fungi and hope to catch otters and kingfishers at some point. That might be a trip during school hours unfortunately
My second time of visiting this Beautiful place and stunning area , recently joined the RSPB as I upgraded my Camera gear . Went through the Woodland walk and came across these lovely Scarlet Elf Caps and Peacock feather fungi I am certainly going back .
A really lovely way to spend a morning or afternoon. The wildlife is thriving, the variety of birds is vast. Plenty of space for everyone, although it wasn't busy when we went. Carpark is free, and with disabled spaces. The paths are not paved, so could be a challenge for some, and wheelchair users may not be able to go on the grassy paths. The hides are all up steps, and one is called the "tower" hide for a reason. The longer route takes you over the railway line ... Twice. The second time there is a style, so may not be suitable for everyone. Plenty of places to take pictures. A bird lovers delight. You do have to pay to enter, but the money goes to a good cause. Worth a visit.
