Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life, formerly known as Summerlee Heritage Park, is a visitor attraction based on the site of a 19th century iron works in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire. The museum makes a great family day out and has Scotland's only operational heritage tramway, as well as a recreated mine with guided tours, miners' cottages, an exhibition hall with working machinery, a play park, a cafe and a shop. There's so much to do and see, when you take a trip to Summerlee! Admission is free.
Lovely afternoon at Summerlee Museum. Unfortunately, it rained on and off, but we had a fantastic time exploring. There is so much to see and interact with. So many different interesting sections, like the old town houses. Lovely walk around, big play park, toys and play areas throughout for the children. Free to visit. Cafe, wee sweet shop and gift shop. Can't wait to go back and explore the mine, which was shut due to the weather.
Smashing Museum, interesting objects and stories about North Lanarkshire and the cottages are great to see. Cafe also very nice.
A staple of my childhood. Outstanding museum with lots of interactive exhibits to keep you interested no matter your age. Beautiful outdoor walk to get to the mine village, with tours of a mine and houses dating back over the decades to try out life over the years. The indoor exhibits are terrific for engineering enthusiasts. Looking forward to when the trams are fixed
Such a lovely place to take a toddler. Great amenities and a lovely setting. What a fantastic idea to put toys through such a museum space to make it both interesting for adults and entertaining for wee folk.
Nice day out. Lots for kids to do and see. Inside there's alot of historical things too look and interact with. There's also a cafe and shop. The tram is being repaired which was a shame as we wanted to go on it. There's the vulcan ship you can go in that sits on the water. There's a kids play park with sand that is for different age ranges. A short wall from the museum are little cottages that are made to represent different eras 1880s, 1910, 1940, 1960 and 1980s houses. There's a little sweet shop in one. Also there's access to the mines. It also has a nice little scenic walk around.
This is a great place for young and old to visit, park is fantastic, loads to do and see inside. Don't forget to visit the cottages too. The cafe is superb, Sharon and her team are very pleasant and helpful. The food was lovely and fresh even though they were very busy. I would definitely recommend this place for a day out. They have so many activities on throughout the year.
