Talgarth Mill is an 18th Century watermill restored to full working order, milling wholegrain flour and giving guided tours ~ all proceeds going towards this 100% volunteer-run project! The Mill's Cafe is open from Tues to Sat, from 9am to 4pm. The Mill and Craft Shop open from Wed to Sat from 10am to 3pm. The Bakery opens from Wed to Sat from 9am to lunchtime (when the daily stock usually runs out!).
Review by Matt Godfrey (left in incorrect place): Stopped en route to north Wales to stretch our legs. Lovely garden and cafe. Free entry and bread baked using their flower available to buy. Well worth a visit.
An absolute must if you are anywhere near! A wonderful tour around the mill, by the miller who was exceptionally knowledgeable . He was also able to speak and engage our 5 year old in the process of milling and make it a hands on experience for her. She really loved grinding the grain and getting to take it home to use. We are looking forward to making some bread with the mills flour that we bought. We will definitely be back again on our next holiday.
What a gem! The love and dedication that has gone into restoring and running Talgarth Mill is obvious at every step. The garden was looking stunning in the early May sunshine, with plenty of seats in quiet little spots to sit and enjoy the surroundings. We had a hearty meal from the cafe, a nice chat with the volunteer in the shop and a lovely tour with the friendly miller. I've recently started making my own bread and can't wait to try out all their different flours, all made entirely by water power! We'll definitely be back soon.
Brilliant tour. We spent about 45 minutes with guide and miller Neil, who gave a really engaging tour - plenty for the novice and industrial history nerd (which we are) alike. It was fascinating to hear his in-depth knowledge of the processes and machinery of the mill, how they treat different grains, where they source them from, why the moisture content is important, how long it takes to learn to perfect flour production (answer: years!). Highly recommended.
You will NEVER taste cakes as good as these. I bought a pack of 4 Coffee and Walnut Cakes from Glynneath Bakery and oh my god. They were literally INCREDIBLE!!!
Lovely friendly museum well worth a visit. Some beautiful craft items for sale as well as their flour and bread.
On-site services
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Good for kids
