WOW ! Small castle/roundhouse but it's so well preserved, that almost every room is decorated - so there's so much to look at. The grounds is like a council space, so they have events on in the summer too. Pound for pound, this is the best castle I've been to

It's a must-see treasure that you'll want to visit again and again!
Small but perfectly formed example of how a castle should be exhibited. The staff are excellent, so friendly and helpful. The place is jam-packed with top-class exhibits and artefacts. There's a lot more here than meets the eye.
Must see if you are in this area. Well worth the entrance fee. We stayed there for nearly 2 hours. Short walk from the train station and handy car parks close by. From the outside the castle on the hill looks small but impressive. We arrived as a small group and the manager Richard gave us a little intro talk. then we chatted to a very friendly volunteer dressed up as a knight. Absolute wealth of knowledge and so engaging, highly recommend. Told us about some of the little details you would miss as a passing visitor. The museum had rooms dressed up as they would've been plus an impressive gallery space with a short film, recreation of the old castle inside it and the Saxon hoard is a must see. The detail in the gold is so fine you have to look at it with a magnifying glass, how they made those all those centuries ago I'll never understand. Lots to see and do for families including a trail, free craft and a good choice of interactives. Great view from the roof too. Well maintained facilities and some of the cleanest museum toilets I've ever seen. Didn't come across a cafe, however you could go outside and come back in with your ticket. I would recommend to anyone visiting this area.
Tamworth castle is an impressive construction but ultimately what you get from it depends on you. Me personally , I was there luckily before a school party, so rooms that would have been restricted were open. Also I got to spend some quality time with a small portion of the Staffordshire horde (no photos allowed) . Volunteers, and building were excellent however there was a lot aimed at kids which detracted from the whole experience for me .
I didn't venture into the castle, just enjoyed a leisurely stroll around the gardens and fed the ducks on the river. The cafe wasn't open, not sure why? There's shops and pubs nearby including an adventure playground and a shopping centre.
