A row of brightly colored, triangular-shaped beach huts line the promenade of Tankerton Bay Beach, each one unique and adorned with individual decorations, creating a vibrant and Instagram-worthy scene.
After visiting Whitstable Castle we have decided to explore the surrounding areas and come across this lovely beach with beach huts. Even though it is not a sandy beach, it is still awesome place to come in summer and not only. The beach is very popular amongst locals and visitors. Very helpful wind breaks there too! There is the spit of land extending for a mile out to sea you can walk ( called the Street). Popular opinion for the Street's existence focuses around the belief that it once led out to a minor Roman port, or settlement frequent finds of Roman pottery, known as Samian ware, and the fact that the coastline was two to three miles further out than it is today, supported this opinion. However, authorities on the subject now consider that this shingle bank is a natural formation, the built up over centuries of wind and tide and that the finds are the result of shipwreck. So, if you decide to check it out, be very careful not to get cut off by the tide, as it can come in quite fast. So check the tide times. Great place for kids too! Definitely recommend it!
Always love coming here any time of the year. Beach is usually not as congested as other seaside resorts. Great place to bring kids, go for a walk or do the parkrun. If you get a chance, go when the tide is out so you can walk down 'the Street' - brilliant natural feature.
