This ancient woodland is a haven for wildlife, with towering trees, sparkling streams, and a carpet of bluebells in spring. The woodland floor is covered with a thick layer of leaf litter, and the air is filled with the sweet scent of wildflowers. A network of walking trails crisscrosses the reserve, offering visitors a chance to explore the woodland's secrets, from hidden glades to ancient tree stumps. The woodland is home to a variety of wildlife, including badgers, foxes, and birds, and the sounds of nature - birdsong, rustling leaves, and babbling brooks - create a sense of peace and tranquility.
Ample parking at the top, with a toilet block. Beautiful woodland walk- the circular route is not overly strenuous- path is just a little uneven in places with only a couple of little hills. The walk follows the river and has some great spots for a picnic, to skim stones or have a little paddle.
Very steep slope down (1:3) and car park was on opposite side of river! Some 4x4s drove through but I didn't want to risk it. Beautiful spot with ancient stone Bridge over river. Worth a visit but suspect its very busy in the summer.
Stunning clapper bridge for ding the river one of the best examples in the country. Great place to start walks along the Bale River taking in Exmoor's beautiful scenery. Good size car park (PS5 all day) a 1/4 mile up the hill and disable badge parking next to river. Farm pub/restaurant over looking the bridge where you can relax watching others playing in the water. Canoeing and horse riding are not unusual. Their are benches long the two miles of the short walk for picnics but no tables and an ice cream kiosk for the kids! A visit in spring is amazing with the bluebells in bloom.
Absolutely beautiful place. An ancient clapper bridge, placed in the most beautiful woodland. Many wonderful walks available from the car park and a lovely pub/hotel just by the stream.
A very relaxing place where to admire an ancient stone bridge dating back probably to Neolithic times. A nice 1 hour circular walk can also be enjoyed. The nearby pub is also very attractive ;-)
