This charming 17th-century barn has been beautifully restored to its former glory, boasting original wooden beams, exposed brickwork, and a rustic charm that transports visitors back in time.
The Barn Green End was our last night of accommodation on our Coast to Coast Walk and it certainly did not disappoint! The barn is not only beautifully restored and decorated but it also has a well appointed kitchen and great showers/bathrooms. The view from the dining room is spectacular! Excellent for watching the sun set and night skies and in the morning we saw rabbits and a fox on the frosty field. Louise is an excellent host, so welcoming and supportive, we could not have asked for a kinder owner. She really made sure we had an amazing stay here and a fantastic end to our journey.
I went with a group of girls for my big birthday. The accommodation was perfect. Attention to detail and extras like eggs and a home made cake, brilliant. There are many walks and quaint villages with a lovely cafe just at the foot of the hill. We had a surprise visit from a barn owl and saw a lot of wildlife. The location is great. We drove to Whitby abbey and did a coastal walk and had fish and chips. Louise was very attentive and gave us ideas of where to go for walks.
A wonderful place to stay with fabulous views of the Esk valley. Louise and Carl could not be more helpful and the lemon drizzle cake is ace. The Barn is spacious, comfortable and clean and has a variety of lovely walks straight from the door. We loved it so much last year we came back this year.
We have just completed our 3rd stay at this amazing barn. As a family of 5 with a dog, it's a very spacious place to stay, but as you can sleep up to 9 people and the bedrooms are both ensuite and lie at each end of the barn with a large living space in the middle - it would be also great for 2 families holidaying together. Really perfectly located in the North York Moors a short drive into Whitby and other coastal villages. Best Fish and Chips at Excelsior in Staithes, excellent long beach for dogwalking at Sandsend, but Runswick Bay our favourite for the kids - great beach, great rockpooling, lots of fossils in the rocks. With loads of wildlife and opportunity for walking and hiking nearby, the Barn itself is on working farmland, down a long lane which is initially a bit tricky to find. Internet connection is variable at times due to location but mostly fine, I only had to use my mobile as a hotspot on one occasion in 7 days. Louise is a lovely host who is always available if needed, and makes excellent cake! Really well equipped kitchen. The barn has the most incredible views over Eskdale to wake up to and to sit and admire of an evening - we always struggle to leave. Couldn't recommend highly enough.
Thanks Louise for providing such a warm, inviting, stylish and comfortable base for our 4 day stay. From the welcoming lemon drizzle cake to the emergency hen's eggs, you did everything to make our stay problem free. We had a great time. It's a wonderful and contrasting area. The forbidding moors, wreathed in mist, the lush valley floor, close wooded and mossy, the sandy beaches and narrow lanes of Whitby. In truth we barely scratched the surface of things to do. The steam train is a must, the walk back from Goathland to Grosmont is a great way to see the valley close up. Whitby and more particularly Sandend on a sunny day made for a memorable day out. We ate in for the most part but there are plenty of popular restaurants and inns nearby. We felt we could really relax here at The Barn, so far away from our normal life. We left with regret and hopes of a return some day. Thanks Louise and Carl for providing this little haven for us. Much appreciated. Final note for EV drivers: top up before you hit the NYM. There's just one 50kwh charger in Whitby (Lidl) and it's very well used.
Louise is an exceptional hostess who gave us a warm welcome, a lift to the pub for our evening meal, eggs from her hens and information about walking on local tracks. The Barn is a beautiful and comfortable place to stay with it's modern interior designs and fabulous views. It is very well equipped in the kitchen area and our continental breakfast included delicious home made bread. In the morning we watching the resident Barn Owl on several flights past the huge picture window.
