In beautiful Brampton Park lies Newcastle-under-Lyme's local history museum featuring over 2000 years of Borough history. Set in verdant parkland our welcoming, family-friendly museum has something for everyone. Alongside our exhibitions we have galleries depicting the area's diverse history using our amazing collections. Following a 2 year redevelopment project we fully re-opened in May. New galleries include The Borough in 80 Objects and Mrs Mosley's Parlour - complete with a talking portrait. Brampton Street allows you to step back in time and discover the wares of Mellard's ironmongers, the pawnbroker's treasures, the chemist's cures and the gruesome doctor's instruments. The toy gallery is a firm favourite with all ages!
We have hired out the Willow Room at the Museum for educational classes and the space is excellent - it's really well set up for these sorts of classes. It's in a great location and the Museum itself is fab to look around and enjoy. There's excellent outdoor spaces as well and the cafe has a great selection of food/drinks, so there's plenty to do to keep children (and adults!) entertained. The staff are incredibly kind and helpful, and were always on hand to help out and make sure that we had everything we needed. A special mention to Elise who has been our main point of contact. She has been absolutely brilliant with helping us to organise and promote our classes, and is a lovely person as well! If you're looking to run a class/hire out a space for an event then we highly recommend the Brampton!
Called in as a matter of interest as we were passing-by driving out of Newcastle under Lyme. When Google says " Local history museum & art gallery with a Victorian street scene, a toy collection & other exhibits" that is exactly what you get - with the addition of a small, serene garden which is very pleasant. The museum/art gallery is free (donate what amount you want to) and I would say charming and interesting. The experience seems to be geared around children and schools, which as an educationalist I am in favour of, even if the kiddies had taken over the Victorian street so we couldn't see it. A pleasant atmosphere all around, staff and cafe. It is what it is, and what it is, is nice.
Very interesting local.museum... there's lots to learn about the history of Newcastle-under-Lyme in the museum :)
Lovely new carving at the Brampton in remembrance of D-Day. We went into the tea rooms for coffee and cake. Very nice, had a lovely chat with the owner.
Great day out for the kids. Had an activity teaching then to look and learn for a prize. Great attention to detail at the museum lots to see. Staff are nice and most of all. FREE 2 hours to kill with the kids
