A Castle built on sand... The Castle has been described as 'the gem of Bude'. The stunning Grade II listed building has been converted into a dedicated heritage centre that explores local history and culture. Accredited by the Arts Council, it also has a regularly-rotating exhibition programme showcasing both local and national artists. The programme is not confined to any one style or medium; from abstract to figurative; landscape to representational, printmaking to photography, and furniture, too. There's so much to see and do at The Castle, that you'll be glad to take a rest during your visit and taste the delights from our Cafe Limelight. The Castle is also a licensed wedding venue for weddings and civil ceremonies.
Great place to go and learn about both the castle itself and the local area and some of the residents. Family visit - lifeboat day- August BH - 4 & 6 yr old boys. What we liked It was free - unbelievable - no admission charge Had toilets and a cafe Some really interesting history which included Lifeboat Surfing Ww2 dday training (US Rangers) Founder of the castle and his inventions GCHQ radar site Airbase Fossils Development of the town from early trading. This was all really nicely presented with pictures, models, artefacts, interactive displays and some VERY good information boards. Things which you might need to know - (which didn't bother us) No car park (we walked across from big crescent car park beside tourist info Doesn't look that obvious - as castles go - it's small The layout is a bit topsy turvey - as it's small - not an obvious circular route. Overall Well worth a visit - families singles couples kids. Main car parks tariffs on last photo - long stay the same prices as widemouth in picture.
Entry was free and the exhibits within are interesting and some were interactive. There's a cafe on level 2 and toilets on level 1 as well. Highly recommended to visit.
The family and I visited Castle Bude as it is a free museum and art gallery. Some interesting artifacts, history and art. We popped into the cafe and enjoyed their tasty offerings. I highly recommend a visit.
Interesting mix of museum and art gallery, with a cafe upstairs (Limelight) which has an outside balcony and nice views across the canal. Free entry, nice garden, and surroundings.
Nice place. We visit regularly. Prices were cheap but have now gone up to a level that is similar to the competition. Table service appears to have been removed for drinks so now you have to wait like a lemon waiting to ripen! Good cafe for a drop-in if visiting the Museum.
Fabulous museum full of interesting exhibits, a lovely cafe with great views and a little gift shop. Well worth a visit when you're in Bude!
