Guided tours and self-guided visits available. Pre-booking online is essential to guarantee entry. The Coffin Works is a museum in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter. Guides lead tours around the time capsule factory, where the workshops are full of original stock and tools. Experience sights, sounds and smells of factory life, including machinery demonstrations. Hear stories about workers, owners and the trade; how Newman Brothers produced some of the world's finest coffin furniture, including the fittings for the funerals of Winston Churchill and Princess Diana for over 100 years.
A thoroughly enjoyable and illuminating experience. We decided to take one of the tours with a guide so discovered a lot. Having said that, my only suggestion would be to allow those on a paid tour to be able to return into the building again, after the tour finishes, as there was no chance to actually absorb everything that was going on in some of the rooms, especially those with detailed panels that we could not read. So it felt like we could only learn from the guide but not have a chance to really discover everything this wonderful place offers.
Had a great time. Very interesting museum. Staff were fantastic. Very polite, respectful, friendly, and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend a visit here. Thank you all for making our visit so enjoyable.
A super-interesting museum with very personal interactions from the volunteers, some of whom worked there years ago when it was still operational. If you fancy a change from pictures and fossils fare, try coffin furniture!
My friend and I took a trip to Birmingham to see this museum. I've got to say that the guide was exceptional, full of knowledge and interesting facts. Thoroughly brilliant day out. Would highly recommend.
Mike showed us around and explained everything in a very exciting and interesting way, the workshops are still in the same condition as when they were abandoned. We had a very good time. Thank you!
I definitely need to show my respect to Joyce and Chirs. To be a respected woman, Joyce saved the building and memories to build this museum. And Chirs, our fantastic guide today, made the experience of museum visiting come to an unexpected memory. Even though I know nothing about the British and Birmingham history, he helped me travel back--so much thanks.
