Award winning garden and open air-gallery; home to over 90 contemporary sculptures by internationally renowned artists, set within 45 acres of stunning grounds in a beautiful tranquil valley. Widely considered to be home to the North's largest collection of rhododendrons, azaleas and magnolias with 20,000 plants. The park is enhanced by three lakes, an Arboretum, Pagoda, Summerhouse, Himalayan Shelter, Norse Hut, decorative bridges and scenic woodland walks. For 2024, 60 new sculptures have been installed as part of a 'Sculptures in the Landscape Exhibition' A tearoom serves delicious food and drinks with a children's woodland playground and plant sales area. Dogs on leads are welcome.
Wonderful place to enjoy a decent walk in vast, beautifully maintained gardens. The sculptures are varied and interesting located throughout the gardens. There are some steep sections which would be difficult for those with limited mobility. There are some easier paths but it's a hilly site so might be a bit too much if you're not that fit and well. The cafe and coffee pod were great. Nice food and super staff. Car parking plentiful. Entry price reasonable. Good value you could easily spend 4 to 5 hours here in decent weather. It would be a challenge in bad weather.
What a find! A brilliant place for a day out. The gardens and woodlands are glorious - we were too late for the rhododendrons but there is much else of interest - and the sculpture park is one of the best we've been to. Despite spending several hours walking around and exploring pretty well everywhere (or so we thought), when checking back through our photos we realised we probably saw 'only' about two-thirds of the artworks - so a perfect excuse to make a return visit! Excellent cafe as well with really friendly staff. A veritable hidden gem!
Fabulous gardens with an interesting variety of sculptures and lots of beautiful plants. Many peaceful spots to sit and relax. Whilst some of the paths would be challenging for those with disabilities there is an accessible route that's mainly flat once you're down the hill, and the paths are well maintained with gentle steps. Highly recommend the garden tearoom, the staff are lovely and the chef has a delicious assortment of seasonal hot and cold specials made from local produce. Make sure to leave room for the cakes though!
Had a lovely day wandering around. Took my 89 year old mum who managed the stairs at a very slow pace. Once you're at the bottom of the hill though, it's relatively flat going. Lovely gardens and lots of interesting sculptures. Would love to come back without mum so I could explore the slightly more inaccessible areas. Didn't use the cafe, so can't comment on that. Best to book tickets online because they are limited to the amount of people they can accept.
This place will take your breath away it is so beautiful. We followed Google maps to get there, I don't think we would have found it otherwise as it is hidden away. But once we were there we enjoyed every moment. There is so much to see over a large area of beautiful and very well kept grounds. When we visited there was 90 permanent sculptures and another 60 which were available to purchase, we had great fun trying to spot them all. There are toilets and a lovely cafe on site too. All staff were really lovely and friendly. We shared a huge cruffin (cross between a muffin and croissant filled with chocolate)in the cafe which was the perfect end to our afternoon.
Wonderful garden to visit in the spring for rhododendrons and azaleas. The sculptures provide additional and, sometimes thought-provoking, interest. The owners are taking advantage of the recent loss of trees (due to a virus) to enhance large areas. Great teashop in the higher grounds, providing drinks, cake and some interesting food at a reasonable price. There is also a refreshment trailer in the valley, open a peak visitor times. You may need more than one visit to cover the whole garden. Not suitable for those with mobility issues due to very steep gravel paths, which is a great pity.
