The Laskett celebrates the arts. Uniquely autobiographical, this remarkable garden is a creative memorial by Sir Roy Strong CH and his late wife Julia Trevelyan Oman CBE. It was created in 1974 from a bare four-acre field in the idyllic countryside of Herefordshire. Fruit blossom and fruit laden branches dazzle you in The Christmas Orchard. Colours delight in the Queen's Silver Jubilee Garden where a sundial takes centre stage. Scent sedates the air in the repeat flowering Rose Garden. Nature heals you along Julia's walk, a wild flower meadow with lavish planting and a pond that's a haven for wildlife. Please be aware that the garden is difficult for visitors who are solely reliant on a wheelchair. Booking essential
What a unique garden! You can really feel the spirit of this garden live on from Sir Roy's creation. Such a fascinating story told through a narrated handheld podcast by Sir Roy (lovely personal touch!) himself, giving the history and vision of the separate spaces that all join one together in a magic flow. It has a formal informality about it, which works, with lots of stonework hidden throughout too. Can't take it all in, in one visit, and need to go back through the seasons to enjoy. A large garden to enjoy, with a lovely coffee shop (delicious cakes) and a great shop with beautiful pieces on sale. You can buy plants too - picked myself up a fig tree, as you do! Thank you to the team at the Laskett for a wonderful visit
This is a fabulous, surprisingly large, private garden complete with audio tour. Lots of distinct areas, each with a story to tell from the creators' artistic life. I'm definitely not a gardener, but to my untrained eye there are quite a few interesting plants too. Well worth a visit.
Beautiful gardens. Well worth a visit.
Visited this lovely garden on a NGS day. It's one of those unique places that is instilled with the passions and interests and love of its creators Roy Strong and his wife Julia. I've wanted to visit this garden for a few years now, it's such a special place. The staff were so very welcoming and pleasant, and I felt a great deal of enthusiasm and love for this place. There was some lovely art on display as well from the artist in residence. I will hopefully visit again during one of the weekday openings.
Wonderful garden with so many areas to explore. Unique in many ways.
Wow what a garden, I have learned so much and have taken so many great ideas and inspiration. This is definitely one to visit.
