The Long Shop Museum tells the story of the agricultural and industrial revolution in Suffolk, and of the pioneering engineering firm that was based in our historic buildings. The Museum further celebrates its industrial heritage through a wide range of special events where its historic engines can be seen working along with a wide range of other attractions.
What a treat!! The friendliest of staff to greet you, onsite parking and a simple tea room for tea and biscuits. The museum was fantastic, wonderfully interesting exhibits, well laid out, and loads of fun stuff for children to get involved in; including brass rubbing, making mechanical models, an i-spy trail to follow, jigsaws, fancy dress, just brilliant!
Great volunteer run museum that has come on in great strides in the last two years.
From the 19th century, not 18th ... the summary on Maps is wrong. Good small museum centred around a Victorian iron works and steam factory. Worth a look-around, but not a whole day.
This remarkable museum traces the development of engineering manufacture in Leiston. Following the history of the Garrett family over more than two centuries, it is a tribute to their adaptability and inventiveness. You will see steam engines, fire engines, tractors, and much more, and crucially how and where they were designed and made, There is much to learn about invention and social history here. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.
A very interesting museum set in part of the Garrett engineering works. Run and beautifully looked after by volunteers. Highly recommend a visit if you are in the area.
We were greeted by friendly, knowledgeable lady. Able to buy drinks, biscuits & crisps in cafe area. Very interesting museum of Garretts history.
