This reserve features a mix of woodland, heathland, and wetland habitats, providing a haven for a diverse range of wildlife. The woodland is dominated by oak and beech trees, with a carpet of bluebells in the spring. The heathland is home to reptiles, amphibians, and insects, while the wetland attracts birds such as snipe, lapwing, and curlew. A network of footpaths and boardwalks allows visitors to explore the reserve, which is also dotted with ponds, streams, and a lake.
This is a great woodland with hundreds of large oak trees. So many of the trees look like their trunks have been dipped in a bucket of green moss -its a very mystical place. There are several Sussex Ghyll Streams trickling away. During the winter the paths can get rather wet and boggy making walking slow going, but it's still worth it! There is a small car park with a dirt floor and a height barrier.
What a fantastic woodlands. Sit still enough and you might see deer. It feels huge and once you get in a bit further and can't hear so much traffic it really feels like you're away from everyone. I've been a couple of times and never met another person there, not even in the car park. Definitely want to visit again as there's lots more to explore. Ive heard that if you're going to go deep in it is advisable to take a map and compass. We also got caught in a huge rain shower and got totally soaked (had rain jackets but not waterproof trousers or any shelter). The whole place went dark and we actually thought the sun was going down. And then the skies opened. Afterwards everything was dripping and glistening. It was awesome but if you're in a long way and have quite far to walk back a change of clothes or waterproof trousers are a good idea.
Lovely walk with the dogs through a beach woodland
Old woodland with interesting trees. Good place to explore long trails can be found here
A really nice family walk. The dogs loved it. Little bit of road walking but fairly quiet roads anyway. The car park is on the right only about 250 yards once you've turned into Crimborne Lane, so beware! Under a height restriction. Blink and you'll miss it.
Great place for long walks, even if i did get lost.
