Beautiful Grade 1 Listed building lovingly restored. Museum and displays within informative but I think could be usefully expanded with more information about the building and activities of the Society. Didn't try the cafe but i believe it has won awards so will trying next time!
The Folly is a delight, inside and out. It's the prettiest building in Settle, reminding me of Paycocke's House in Coggleshall. Sadly the museum wasn't open for us so we extended our stay in the Cafe instead. The staff bustled noisily about, aware that they're an essential component of the atmosphere, and the vaunted scallywags were delicious. Best cup of coffee I had on the trip, too.
Superb museum which is well laid out and very much better curated than the usual, small town museum. Highlights for me were the sections of the displays dealing with (1) the extraordinary lives of some local women and (2) the building of the Settle to Carlisle railway line. The interactive computer programme on the latter was especially interesting.
A lovely little museum. Well worth a visit. Staff were friendly and helpful. Enjoyed the exhibits. There was wheelchair access which enabled the whole extended family to enjoy the facilities. Free entry.
