Based at Langford near Maldon. The Museum's fascinating collection includes 'Marshall' the largest Steam Engine in Essex. There's also other smaller engines and belt workshop in the collection. We have the Steam Pump Tea Room, a great place to have sandwiches, cake and a cooked breakfast or lunch. The grounds of the Museum are beautifully maintained with a lovely variety of flowers on display. We are open as normal currently and our events program is running as normal.
Lovely museum, reasonably priced for a family at time of visit. Kids loved all the large working displays and also the arts and crafts tent which was included in ticket price. Recommend if the kiddies love trains, going on a Sunday when the miniature trains are scheduled to run, best to check on the website prior to going. All in all, well worth a visit with a lovely cafe on site also.
Great museum, model village, and cafe. Volunteers have done an amazing job in preservation and improving this place. The layout and information boards were really good. The model village was so good and in October when it's lit with fairy lights will be amazing. Live the miniature railway, as did the kids. There are plenty of play areas and picnic areas. School visit was well catered for. Cafe choices were great for coffee and lunch, and staff were lovely. Loved hearing the pump running at lunchtime as did the kids on the school visit.
Went to this museum to see these old machines and how they used to be in glory days. However due to lack of volunteers none of the machines were working, which was very disappointing as they didn't say anything upon entery, nor when we paid. The place needed some TLC from fresh volunteers but as I don't live in the area I can't help. There is superb coffee shop though. We were told this as we didn't go in but judging by the amount of people inside the cafe it must have been true. It will cost you PS8:0 for adults and PS5:0 for children I think to enter the museum and for this you can spend as much or as little time you want inside. There is a little model railway outside which looked great to take the kids on, but again this wasn't working either. Overall we were disappointed which is all I can say really.
A brilliant museum with loads to do for kids and adults alike. Miniature railway, model village and nice picnic spot. Looking forward to going back!
Really great museum and the location is lovely. Mightily impressive machinery is on display and was started up when we were there. My 2 yr old son loved the interactive displays. The staff were brilliant and super friendly. There are toilets and a cafe on site. The parking is free. They also run events which I've heard have a lot of additional displays and activities
Brilliant historic pumping station for water to processing plant and clean water to users. Over a hundred years old and still running.
