The Old Station Tintern offers the perfect Wye Valley pit stop with riverside parkland, a playground, picnic sites, on-site cafe and more. The Old Station is open from April 1st - October 31st, with only the car park open throughout the off-season.
Stopped here on the way past and was pleasantly surprised. Great little cafe, zip line , small park & a converted train carriage that shows the history of the line. Easy access to a nice walk along the river bank. Parking was PS2.20 for a few hours but everything else was free. If your in the area definitely worth stopping there.
This is a lovely spot for a relaxing break, especially if you're interested in a bit of history. The restored station buildings and signal box are well-maintained and charming. We enjoyed a delicious lunch at the cafe - the bacon sandwiches are particularly noteworthy! They also have plenty of outdoor seating if you prefer a picnic lunch. For families, there's a great play area to keep the little ones entertained. We didn't have time to explore the miniature railway or riverside walk this visit, but they're definitely reasons to come back. We tried several times and every time has different experience.
Found this lovely location by chance, great place to visit, either for the great cafe, (best coffee in the forest of dean) historical value of the old station or a start point for several really good walks. If parking for longer than 4.30pm make sure you park near the station and not in the overflow car park which is locked when the cafe shuts
A beautiful location in the Wye valley. Great food and drinks in the old station building. Lots of picnic tables, a good play area for kids, access to Wye valley walks, interesting old station buildings and carriages. A large car park which gets very busy during sunny weekends.
For kids :Pram friendly. A mud kitchen . A nice park area including zipwire. Miniature railway For big kids . A thrisby gold corse area by the river Nice museum set in the train cars :)
Very peaceful and relaxing place. Only paid for parking, PS3. Can go into carriages and have a miniature train ride. Lots of beautiful wood carvings everywhere. Cafe is welcoming and does lovely late coffee. Lots of places to sit, inside and outside. Can go for a Wye Valley walk. Good for dog walkers. Many interesting artifacts about the old Station. Very relaxing day out.
