Eccentric pineapple-shaped structure, built by the Earl of Dunmore in 1761 as a summer home.
This area is upkept and will get renovated sounds awesome. This seems like the main attraction now, but we parked to the North East Road and walked from there, so it was a long walk. Path was good though but there must be a quicker option. After checking this out we walked road the whole circle estate. Seems like a gun place for dogs as well.
Followed the instructions from the National Trust for Scotland website to get to the pineapple. It's quite a long bumpy track to the car parking area, which has space for 6 or so cars. There's a beautiful walled garden and a short walk around the pond which has newts.
What a novel experience to stay within the famous Pineapple. Really is beautiful and striking, every morning was a pleasure to watch the sun illuminate the the structure. Having tea in the pavilion whilst looking over on to Dunmore estate is a treat. The interior has been kept true but with the convenience of modern heating, lighting and kitchen.
Absolutely stunning place to visit. If you walk the loop you end up at the ruins of Dunmore House. So sad that this beautiful place was abandoned, would love to know more about the history. Well worth a visit.
It's definitely a unique building in a nice forest. The paths around it are quite muddy but otherwise well kept. There is ample parking at the end of the road but the road is very country so drive carefully.
Funny, quirky and free! A nice little drive out to see this very unusual summer house.
