The Real Mary King's Close is a sell-out attraction. We strongly recommend pre-booking online before you visit. For hundreds of years, the true story of Mary King's Close has remained untold - until now! A unique and historical 5-star visitor attraction, The Real Mary King's Close is situated just off Edinburgh's Royal Mile. Deep beneath the streets of the Scottish capital lies a warren of hidden closes and rooms that have remained frozen in time since the 17th century. Explore this unique site on a 1-hour guided tour led by a costumed expert guide, and experience what it was like for the people who lived, worked and died in Edinburgh's Old Town.
It was a great tour, we travelled to 17th century Edinburgh and witnessed different life styles of the time, how the plague affected the life and finished our tour with a spooky picture. Our guide was very good. I was expecting to see costumed actors around, but we only interacted with our guide. Overall it was impressive, definitely recommend it. There's a good gift shop at the end of the tour.
This tour was really interesting! We loved getting to go under the city and hear the history of Edinburgh. Our guide Katie L? (I think, ugh, sorry) was charming, well spoken and had a great understanding of the subject matter. We really enjoyed the tour, it was a highlight of our trip. I even adopted a rat friend at the end. Ha!
Our guide Erin led us along a unique, interesting, and darkly funny trip through a moment in Edinburgh's history. If you have an hour to spare while visiting the city definitely spend it seeing what life was like a few hundred years ago! Plus there are really cool models of the city streets.
This tour was soooo nice! Meg was a very funny, entertaining but also a knowledgeable person. This made my experience more 'real' because of her little acting skills. Highly recommend it so you can get to know the true stories and experience how the 1600s were. I learned many new little facts about the plague (and all types of them), the Royal family and how the life was back in those days. Little notes: - I took a jacket with me but you rather would be too warm than too cold. - There are some stairs you have to take for this tour but not too many! - Taking photos of the places is not allowed because it is government ground. - I bought my ticket on GetYourGuide.
My brother and I loved the tour. We had Euan as our tour guide and he was easy to listen to and gave great detail. The tour lasted an hour and they took a photo of your group at the end (which was PS15 for 1 print). I think this tour should definitely be on the 'must visit list' when you come to Edinburgh. So interesting!!!
Absolutely amazing, the guide Emily was fantastic easy to approach and funny with the group, made it more interesting and easy to listen to. Huge thanks to all at the tour for making it a fantastic weekend for me and my wife. Also be adviced u cannot take photos during the tour, u get and opportunity for ur pic to be taken, the pic I have added is as we leave the gift shop.
