A 426m-high limestone promontory on the Iberian Peninsula, strategically located at the western entrance to the Mediterranean Sea, separating the Iberian Peninsula from North Africa. The rock is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea to the east and the Atlantic Ocean to the west, and is connected to the Iberian Peninsula by a narrow isthmus. Its summit is marked by a nature reserve, which is home to around 300 Barbary macaques, the only wild monkeys in Europe. The rock's steep slopes are covered in scrubland and woodland, with a variety of flora and fauna. The rock's upper sections are heavily fortified, with a series of tunnels and galleries, and a number of gun emplacements and batteries. The rock's history dates back to the 10th century BC, with archaeological evidence of Phoenician, Carthaginian, and Roman presence. It has been a British Overseas Territory since 1704, and is a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors with its unique blend of natural beauty, military history, and cultural significance.
Home cooked food was excellent. Staff friendly, open fire given a real local pub feel. Good job...
Bank Holiday Sunday brunch. We had the club sandwich and chicken sandwich and it was really lovely. Nice location by the canal to watch the boats go by.
Good food, easy to find, easy mooring. Friendly staff, dogs aloud. Great atmosphere. Thank you very much!
Very helpful and friendly staff/owner and locals. We ordered the Sunday roast and it was the best I've ever tasted, the gravy was amazing. Quality food, just how it should be. A proper pub with proper values, fantastic! Very highly recommended!! And Douglas the dog was made very welcome
The location is fantastic for kids and dogs to sit outside by the canal. Plenty of seating inside and out. My meal was delicious - the perfect portion size and very reasonable priced! It was a Bank Holiday and they put on a very good BBQ and a free Bouncy Castle. To top it all, the service of the staff was EXCELLENT! very friendly and helpful. I spent a good 3 hours there and would recommend it to others. I will be back for sure!
