The Sill is the UK's National Landscape Discovery Centre at Once Brewed in the Northumberland National Park. The building is the result of an innovative partnership between Northumberland National Park and YHA England and Wales. A showcase of local pride and passion, it features exhibitions, learning and event spaces, a local food cafe, a brand new Youth Hostel, and a shop specialising in local crafts and produce.
Lovely little place! Particulartly liked the fact it has aimed to make itself as accessible as possible so everyone can appreciate it and the wonderful national park it is set in. Went to see the "Shaun the Sheep" art trail before it finished. Great little hub, set in the beautiful national park. Fantastic views. Busy place. Loved the roof top terrace with plants and great views. Building is unobtrusive to the surroundings. The car park was pretty full, but always people coming and going so, got a space quickly. Good base for walkers. Enjoyed a treat in the cafe which is airy and bright and offers full table service and a good selection and at very reasonable prices. Found the staff to be pleasant and welcoming. Added bonus that there was also a little craft market stall on the day we visited so picked up some little gifts for myself, too.
It is a wonderful place to stop and refresh. There is a great cafe and informative displays (Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the sheep was in residence). There is also a fantastic view of the outstanding scenery from the rooftop of the building. The place is wheelchair friendly and has accessible WC. The car park is paid for on exit. There is plenty of parking. Gift shop is well stocked full of goodies to enjoy. It's definitely worth a visit.
A fantastic venue for adults and kids. The feature display and museum are class, the gift shop is quality and the cafe was lovely. The walk from here to Hadrians wall is fun and challenging with stunning views. My wife, myself and three kids said it was the highlight of our holiday.
I have never in my life experienced such a good tourist information center. Patient, attentive, informative, helpful, knowledgeable - everything you need and more! The toilets are clean and well maintained, the exhibition about the area is very interactive and nice to visit, the shop inside has cool souvenirs, and the coffee shop up top is very good and recommended after a hike.
While the exhibition on landscape is interesting, the roof garden is the star of the show. Welcoming staff, a good cafe and a nice shop. Parking is pay on departure.
Wonderful Shaun the sheep trail and Aardman exhibition all set in the most breath taking surroundings. The Sill building itself is a lovely design and sits beautifully in its surroundings. The staff were friendly and helpful .
