A picturesque beach with soft, golden sand and calm, clear waters, perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and water sports. The shoreline is lined with traditional British seaside amusements, including amusement arcades, fish and chip shops, and ice cream parlors.
Lovely beach! We spent our week on Islay asking around and searching for cowrie shells. We have found many on the other Hebridean islands but couldn't seem to find any on Islay. However on the strand beach, at kintra farm we found lots!! Especially around the rocks on the left side, a treasure trove of them!
Expansive quiet beach marked by fresh water creek thst cuts into it at low tide. Very serene and pretty.
Review of The Strand - semi accessible beach on the Isle of Islay. Equipment, wheelchair, F55 electric handcycle, Devizz hill holder brakes. I managed to do a fair few miles along this beach without once getting stuck in the sand. You have to pick your route carefully and stick to semi wet sand and I found it firmer than other beaches I have been on. I saw a flock of Eider on the sea, Gannets diving and skylarks feeding on the ground here. Access is a little tricky. There is a disused access road next to the airport, from here it is a few 100 meters to the beach. Access is over rough and uneven ground which I did by picking my way carefully to avoid any extreme cambers etc. There are two natural sand ledges which are wide and long down to the beach. I got out and my partner moved my chair to the beach. Others may need a ramp here or simply drive onto the beach as others had clearly done judging by the tyre marks in the sand. You could drive down unload and then park? Once on the beach there were no issues with the terrain.
A beach right next to the Islay airport. The path is bit bumpy. A serene beach
Just a beautiful place, bonus plane came in.
Fantastic long beach to walk...hardly anyone on the beach..beautiful and clean..plus you can watch the planes landing as it's right beside the airport.
Good for kids
