The Whitaker is a forward-facing museum and art gallery that aims to foster inclusive, vibrant communities that thrive within our natural environment. We have recently undertaken a re-development of interpretation with a focus on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, connecting people, heritage and ideas with the past, the present and the future. We are working to strengthen people's rights and entitlements in terms of cultural access, education and participation in the life of the community. We are concerned with the sustainability of communities, the environment, local industries and the economy. We draw on history and heritage, to help imagine, design and begin to create the Valley we want for people and nature.
I can't believe we've not visited the museum before today as we pass it weekly. Free parking and entrance with the loveliest of welcomes both at reception and in the cafe. Not the biggest museum but interesting exhibits, especially in the cupboard of curiosities. Great quality coffee, the food menu looks good too, sadly we won't be going for a pint with its PS8.00 price tag.
Visited her to meet up with friends and grab drink and lunch. Very impressed with whole set up and a fabulous place to visit, catering for all ages. Park is beautifully maintained and set out, with even a community garden encouraging people to enjoy free herbs and cuttings. A baby playgroup was being held outside, which looked great fun for all. Only managed a quick scoot around the actual house, so didn't enjoy the galleries, but chatted to staff who gave me a potted history, which matched the stunning venue.
The Whitaker is a nice local museum which has had some investment/upgrades since the Pandemic. It has a lovely cafe with great views. The museum itself has been updated as well and the exhibits are neatly presented. If you've taken the East Lancs Railway up, it's worth the visit while you're here
We come here as a 1/2 way meeting point. Plenty of parking which is free of charge, excellent facilities, including a cafe selling drinks and tasty selections of food. Interesting museum. Friendly and informative people to talk to The grounds are beautiful to walk around. I was very surprised there is no charge to come here so if you do, please consider making small donation at the reception desk to keep this amazing place going.
We have driven past this place on several occasions but this time we decided to venture in. It was a real serendipity. Lots of interesting exhibits, especially the room entitled 'The Cabinet of Curiosities '. Interesting for children too, with a lovely room dedicated to activities for them to do. The cafe/bar had reasonably priced good food and the surrounding area was lovely for a picnic and games Best of all, it was free to get in. Highly recommended for a good afternoon outing
Lovely modernised building and grounds. It's a great place for artifacts of the local area. History and art displays. Food and drink available. Toilets. Good amount of parking and an incredible edible garden that explains how to use the herbs and plants they have for all to benefit from.
