The Wrekin is a prominent hill in Shropshire, England, with an elevation of 407 meters (1,335 ft) above sea level. It is a popular spot for hiking and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside, including the Welsh Marches and the Shropshire Hills. The hill is topped with a distinctive trig point and is surrounded by a variety of flora and fauna, including woodland, heathland, and grassland. On a clear day, visitors can see as far as the Welsh mountains and the Cheshire Plains. The Wrekin is also home to several ancient monuments, including the Wrekin Hill Fort, a Iron Age hillfort that dates back to the 5th century BC.
Beautiful Place for Hiking , cycling , running & walking. It's hard to go up for first timer but once you reach top you will enjoy breathtaking views . Enjoyed Sunny day with cool breeze . If you are lucky , you will see para gliding too !
Simply beautiful. Kids (5 and 7) did really well all the way to the top. And the way down trough the pine forest was just something absolutely amazing
I found the climb up hard, but then l'm unfit. However, the view from the top is amazing and we'll worth it. Even more special was watch a hawk, just a few feet away as it hoover, with the wind under it's. Impressive.
Long, moderately steep trek up from the Gap Carpark. Hill Fort and rocky at the top. Could do with some benches to enjoy the view and to recover.
So lucky to leave so close to Wrekin. Such a lovely place for a weekend walk with kids and dog. Can be difficult to find parking at peak time. Assent is quite easy and takes 45-60 min. Beautiful scenery in autumn all around. You can return the same way or by following the trails and taking longer but nice detour within woods
Try and find the route off the back of the Wrekin and round back down to the road just above the car park, well worth the trek. The Ercall is worth the climb too.
