This museum showcases the history and heritage of Thornbury and its surrounding areas, featuring exhibits on the town's medieval past, its role in the English Civil War, and its development into a thriving market town. The museum's collection includes artifacts, documents, and photographs that highlight the region's agricultural, industrial, and social history. Visitors can explore recreated period rooms, including a Victorian parlour and a 1940s-style kitchen, and discover the stories of local people who shaped the area's history.
Interesting town museum with lovely locals running it. Very sweet activity for the kids...if you can find all the mice in the museum you get to take a hand knitted home. Our girls loved it (9 and 14 years old).
Interesting little museum about the history of Thornburg, with very friendly and knowledgeable curators. Only small but requires about an hour to read/look at things. Finding hidden object activities were available for the kids which they really enjoyed. Free to enter but there is a donations box.
A small museum run entirely by volunteers. Displays include the Romans coins found in the area and other signs of Roman life in the area. There are also changing displays on various aspects of local life and history. Do ask the volunteers for more information they love to help.
Extremely helpful couple of ladies as we entered - recently lost my dad in February and didn't know much about his dad and his family going back generations and it took us to the area. The main woman behind the desk was very helpful in pointing out some useful socicitys and people that might be able to help :)
Tiny little 2-room museum, but it's definitely worth a visit as it's packed with genuinely interesting stories and artefacts.
