Thorncombe Beacon is a prominent hill in Dorset, England, with an elevation of 161 metres (528 ft). It is situated near the village of Norden, and its summit offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and the nearby town of Corfe Castle. The hill is topped with a distinctive beacon, a tall stone monument built in 1588 to serve as a warning signal in case of invasion. The beacon was restored in 1988 and now stands as a prominent landmark and popular spot for walkers and hikers.
What a spectacular area to walk in, with the most amazing surrounds of cliff tops and see and fields.of.flowers. Parking is available opposite The Anchor Inn. It costs PS8. However, you get a PS2 deduction if you buy food at the Anchor Inn. Well worth it for a bite and a beer after viewing The Cap and Thorncombe beacon. The latter is the easier of the 2 walks. Mostly grass, I walked bare foot. It was lush and soft. Quite steep, but plenty places to.stop.and admire the beach, sea, cliffs and fields.
We walked past here doing part of the south coastal path (west bay to golden cap) cloudy day but still lovely to see the views and have hike up. Not a bad hill to walk up, we didn't find it difficult at all. Can get blowy on the top and no shelter from the rain if it comes in.
Well worth the walk up from Eype beach on a sunny day , stunning views all round and a choice of routes with different grades of ascent.
Great views from the beacon, however a hard climb.
We walked in from Eype's Beach. It was a fairly steep, short climb but the views were worth it!
Unbelievable, worth the walk up a steep hill. Spectacular vista across the Dorset countryside and coastline
Wheelchair-accessible car park
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Good for kids
