A 148-acre city park with an athletics stadium, lake, 2-mile trail, playground & skate park.
Been visiting Thornes Park since I was a kid (for well over 30 years). Has a lot there; large duck pond, exotic bird cage, tennis, pitch and putt, kids play area, miniature railway, skate park, athletics centre, gardens, playing fields, and plenty of walking/running routes around the park. There's a nice pub in the middle too, and a good little cafe over by the duck pond. My kids always loved coming here to feed the ducks and play. We visit less frequently now we live in Huddersfield but did come a few weeks ago.
Came here for the music festival which was fantastic with free entry and parking. Great local bands with lots of facilities for food, drink and a great natural amphitheatre that gives great view of the 2 stages.
Really good park just outside Wakefield centre well maintained with good footpaths suitable for all abilities. Good number of carparking areas. The gardens look good in January sure by early spring time the gardens will be spectacular. Lots of grass areas for family picnics. Small pond with ducks and guess always popular with kid. Well worth a visit any time of the year.
Great open space, walking with dog, kids or alone is lovely lots to see. Play park, skateboarders and scooterers zooming around, the secret and rose gardens are lovely. The aivery and birds with chicks are so cute (some humans..) Sadly the greenhouses are closed but walk round the side there's plants for sale (10-3pm) and some nicely made garden structures. Cash only cafe and a few different areas to park. Seasonal little train too, plus the athletics building so can be busy!
It's so beautiful when the flowers are in bloom. As someone with a slight fear of geese, I can say these are some of the friendliest I've met. There is lots of space for little ones to run and a huge playground.
I have recently visited the Thrones park duck pond and near the car park there are some overgrown bushes. I looked inside to see a family of rats . Very cute. The following picture was the cutest of the bunch!xx
