Timespan is a cultural institution in Helmsdale, a village in the very north east of the Scottish Highlands, with local, global and planetary ambitions to weaponise culture for social change. Timespan is a place for art, research, heritage, local history, future propositions and action. We believe that cultural institutions are a political and public space which belong to society, and as such, have a responsibility to shape a brighter new world based on principles of equality, emancipation and inclusion.
Amazing little museum tucked away on the east coast. Beautiful and interesting exhibits with interactive elements alongside a well curated gift shop. I've heard the cafe does great crepes but didn't get a chance to try.
Really interesting museum about the history of Helmsdale and the surrounding area. Completely dog friendly, also in the cafe. Not big, it won't take too long to go round the exhibits but good value for money. Cafe does lovely savoury and sweet crepes.
Excellent art exhibition, great local history of the herring trade, gold panning and more. Lovely to have freshly made crepes/ cakes and good coffee at riverside tables in the sunny garden. A short wander down to the harbour paid dividends...freshly caught lobsters being offloaded.
Took my dog to see the last wolf in Scotland and the PS5 entrance fee was worth it! It's a small museum but the cafe is nice and staff very friendly.
There is plenty of info to see here and physical items , my children also fell in love with the museums interactive game and Ai room, it really is interactive and informative about various parts of history and bringing the museum to life too , it really helped my children to visualise it all and really enjoyed it. The gallery upstairs was about Beatrice the oil rig , which was interesting, kids listened to the sound booth and headsets. And my daughter loved her cake in the river cafe here too.
Brilliant place to stop. Cracking food, at a fantastic price. Staff were friendly and helpful. Facilities were accessible extremely clean and had gender neutral options as well. Outdoor seating has a bit of wind but beautiful view, cafe has dog bowls and the venue takes cash and card
