The museum also features a collection of artifacts and exhibits on the natural history of the region, including dinosaur fossils and a Victorian-era natural history collection. Interactive displays and activities make it a great destination for families.
Fantastic museum nestled in towcester. We spent 1.5 hours and had great fun. There was craft activities for the children as well as dressing up costumes for each of the eras. The volunteers were so friendly and welcoming. They also have different quizzes for the children to do depending in their age and then they get a certificate at the end. Really recommend it of you would like a little outing and some fun.
Superb, family friendly small museum run by a welcoming team . The display of artefacts is impressive and information plentiful. On my visit yesterday the museum visitors included families of school age children, teenagers without their parents, seniors and Grandads like me.Activities for children were excellent. Admission is such a good value and you can buy an annual ticket for countless visits at a small price. The shop is also an interesting browse with good prices.Definitely worth visiting more than once!
Fabulous little museum with an abundance of history. Learned so much about Towcester and its rightful place in the history of England.
Check opening hours! Not open Monday at present. Friendly people and well told stories. Great for the Roman finds near Towcester/ Lactodorum. Small place but still an hour of fun.
Utterly brilliant. Went with grandchildren who loved it. Small enough to be unintimidating, dress up and low key activities a great hit. Third time we've been, I expect we'll go again.
Towcester Museum and Visitor Centre is the sort of place that every small town with an interesting past should possess. It tells the history of the town from the Stone Age to the present day. It is especially good in catering for young people with appropriate clothes, armour, swords etc for dressing up and a questionnaire for active involvement in all aspects of the town's history, with a certificate awarded to those who complete it. The staff were especially welcoming, friendly and helpful. The museum is a excellent resource for schools and staff are willing to discuss ways in which they can help to bring local history to life by providing talks, visits etc. Overall, it was an excellent place to spend an interesting and informative afternoon.
